Importing animals from Excel or CSV

Upload your list as it is and choose what each column means.

1. Where it is

In My Animals, click Import Excel or CSV. It's done from the Cucha website: it isn't available on mobile.

2. Prepare your file

Upload your own Excel sheet (.xlsx) or a CSV, or download the template and fill it in. One row per animal.

  • Only the name and species are required: dog, cat or other.
  • The microchip must have 15 digits.
  • Dates like 2024-03-15 or 15/03/2024.
  • Up to 500 rows and 2 MB per file. If you have more, split it.
  • Old Excel files (.xls) can't be read: save it as .xlsx or .csv.

3. Match the columns

Cucha guesses what each column is from its header, for example «Chip no.» or «Intake date». Under Columns in your file you can correct it with each column's drop-down. Columns that aren't used are shown as ignored.

4. Review before importing

Nothing has been saved yet. Each row shows its status: will be imported, duplicate or error, with the reason. A row is a duplicate if its microchip already exists in your shelter, or if you already have an animal with the same name, species and date of birth.

5. Choose the initial status and import

  • Pending review (recommended): they aren't visible until you approve them from the animal list.
  • Available: your adopters see them as soon as they're imported.

Only rows without errors or duplicates are imported. You can download the rest with Download rows not imported, fix them and upload them again.

6. Afterwards

Photos are added from each animal's profile. If your sheet has a column with a link to a photo, it's used as the main photo.
